The Natural Tooth Alternative
Dental Implants
If you have any missing teeth, dental implants can resolve these problems and leave you with permanent fixed teeth. Dental Implants are the most viable, cost-effective long term solution. In a time where age outlasts health, dental implants are a standard of care.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots. They usually have a screw-like or cylindrical design and are implanted in the jaw bone to replace the lost teeth. A dental implant performs the same function as a person’s own tooth roots because it fuses directly with the surrounding bone.
What are dental implants made from?
Today nearly all implants are made of high-purity titanium because it is very well tolerated by human tissues and forms a secure bond with bone. This material has proven valuable in medicine for decades, such as knee and hip replacements. Titanium is not known to cause any allergies or intolerance reactions. The size and shape of an implant is determined by the individual conditions in the jaw of the patient receiving treatment.
What are the requirements for dental implants?
There is no general age restriction to dental implantation, however a minimum bone height in the jaw is required. As a result of bone augmentation developments, it has now become possible to rebuild an adequate bony foundation in most cases where this bone supply is not already available. This is done by grafting the patient’s own bone or by the use of bone augmentation materials.
What are the benefits of dental implants?
There are many benefits to dental implants and for the right candidate, the success rate is extremely high. Since the implants are fitted straight into the jaw, there is no continued bone loss as seen with bridgework or dentures. Dental implants also do not require work to be done to adjacent teeth, unlike bridgework. With dental implants, no one will ever know you have a replacement tooth or teeth, they look and feel natural. Biting force remains strong and therefore diet doesn't change which means good nutrition.
Read Michael's story about how he rejuvenated his smile when he had missing teeth. Before consulting with Dr Andrew See, Michael was told he wasn't a candidate for implants because of his low sinus and the amount of bone that had melted away around his teeth. After loosing a front tooth and wearing a denture, he knew he didn't want this to be the long-term solution.
